A FABULOUS start to the morning....

The brakes on Tom's car started making the same kind of metal on metal grinding sound that my Jetta made a few months before we turned it in. I warned him it probably meant all-new brakes, but held out hope it just needed new pads.

Nope. Of course not.

$623... all new brakes. Hooray! Still, less than a downpayment on a new car, so fixing the problem wins out. Tom is now determined to see how long he can make his Cavalier last. Before we decided to turn in the Jetta, he was going to get that car and we were going to get rid of the Chevy. But it has been such a good car and the Jetta was such a crap mobile, that we changed our plans. $623 in the grand scheme of how much the car has cost us over ten years is pretty much a drop in the bucket.

It's just a shame that it came at a time when I really wanted to start working on upstairs bathroom #2 (we're kind of on a roll with the home projects now; I'm hoping to keep the momentum) and during a time when Tom's usual July bonus may possibly be put off until December. (part of the deal with him being a partner now).

So yeah. Car fun. Ohh well... Them's the brakes. (hee hee)

That's a bummer. Why do those things always come up at the worst possible times? Grrr.
